Women's Basketball Knocks off Pierce, Face SBCC for a Re-Match on Sat

Women's Basketball travelled to Woodland Hills on Wednesday and knocked off Pierce, 64-57, to complete their first swing through the Western State Conference.  The Cougars and Brahmas battled for three quarters and entered the final quarter with Cuesta trailing by eight points, however the Cougars finished strong.  Over the final ten minutes of action, Cuesta clamped down on defense and held the Brahmas to a game-low nine points, while also enjoying their second-best scoring quarter of the season.  The Cougars closed out with a 24-9 run thanks to veterans Olivia Missler (pict) and Sam Watanabe. Both Guards enjoyed their first career double-double to help clinch the win over the Brahmas. Missler scored game-high 19 points and pulled down 11 boards, however her seven assists left he just shy of a triple-double, while. Watanabe paired her 18 points with a game-high 15 rebounds.  The victory moved the Cougars to 9-13 overall and 2-4 over first swing through the WSC loop.

The Cougars begin the second round of WSC play this Saturday (3 PM) at Santa Barbara City.  The Cougars began the week with a loss to the Vaqueros, 68-55, but the Cougars were in the game before, suffering through a 3-for-13 shooting slump in the final frame.
