MSJC Women Pick Up IEAC Home Win

The MSJC women's basketball team fought off a very tough Victor Valley team on Wednesday night to pick up a key conference victory as they defeated the visiting Rams 75-55.

The Eagles started off quickly as they built a lead of 16-4 early on and were able to hold the lead at 22-13 at the end of the first quarter.  MSJC was able to push the lead to 38-25 by halftime.  Victor Valley responded in the third period as they outscored the Eagles 19-16 to close the gap to 54-44 heading into the final 10 minutes.  The Eagles regained their footing and were able to win the fourth quarter by a score of 21-11 to earn the victory.

Haylei Janssens shook off a slow start to finish the night with a game-high 17 points, she also grabbed 10 rebounds in the game.  Haley Suarez also recorded a double double for the Eagles as she scored 15 points and had 10 rebounds.  Kiana Castello and Deja Blue each had 14 points for MSJC in the win, Castello also grabbed 8 rebounds while Blue dished out 6 assists.  Keiara Barton also had a strong all-around game with 7 points, 8 rebounds, and 4 assists.

The win was the Eagles 14th in a row and improved their overall record on the season to 15-2, they are 3-0 in Inland Empire Athletic Conference play.  Victor Valley dropped to 8-8 overall and 1-1 in the IEAC.

MSJC will be back in action on Saturday when they travel to Chaffey for a 1 pm game, the Eagles will be back at home next Wednesday, January 15th when they host College of the Desert at 5 pm.
