Schilperoort, Zamora Lead Vikings to Wild 9-8 Win at San Mateo in Coast Opener

In a roller coaster ride of a game, the West Valley baseball team opened Coast-Golden Gate action with a heart pounding 9-8 win at the College of San Mateo Tuesday afternoon. The Vikings (12-6, 1-0 Coast-Golden Gate) had a 6-1 lead through five, but the Bulldogs (10-7, 0-1) erupted for six runs in the sixth to take a 7-6 lead. Robert Zamora's SAC fly tied it at 7-7 in the seventh and Nate Maggi's two-run double gave WVC a 9-7 lead in the ninth. Angelo Bartolin's solo HR brought CSM to within 9-8 in the home half of the ninth, but pinch-hitter Dalton Seymour would ground out to Troy Gilmore at short to end the game. Hunter Schilperoort finished the day 2-3 with three RBI, including a solo HR in the top of the second. Zamora was also 2-3 with three RBI and Jake Pao went 3-5. The Vikings and the Bulldogs meet again in Saratoga Thursday (3/8). First pitch is 2:00pm.
