Battle of the Vaqueros ends in 1-1 tie

Mirza Dizdarevic scored in the eighth minute on Thursday night but Glendale tied it in the 50th minute and SBCC settled for a 1-1 men's soccer tie on the road.

Dizdarevic, a freshman defender from Sweden, tallied his first goal of the year on a header off a corner kick by Aaron Aaberg. The Vaqueros (the teams share the same nickname) blanked Glendale 5-0 on Sept. 30 in Santa Barbara.

SBCC (6-8-3, 5-4-3) outshot Glendale 17-4, including 8-2 in shots on goal. Glendale is 4-9-5 and 4-6-3.

"We should have won this game, we had most of the possession," said SBCC assistant coach Goffin Boyoko. "We just couldn't finish."

Santa Barbara is 3-1-3 in its last seven games, but has only scored twice in the last three outings. Tristan Cooper made his first start in goal and played all 90 minutes for SBCC.

The Vaqueros will host L.A. Mission on Tuesday at 7:30 p.m. in La Playa Stadium.
