Glendora, CA - The Citrus College Softball program's comeback attempt on Tuesday afternoon came up just short. After giving up four runs in the top of the first, Citrus would claw back and score six runs over the course of seven innings, but it wasn't quite enough in the Owls' 6-9 loss to visiting Grossmont College.

After the rocky start that saw the Griffins jump out to a 4-0 lead, with two of the four runs being unearned, the Owls finally answered in the bottom of the second when freshman Cierra Carreon knocked a double to left field that plated freshman Alexis Cordero and sophomore Melanie Barba.

Grossmont came right back and scored three in the top of the third to run out to a 7-2 lead. Citrus would try to keep pace scoring a pair in the bottom of the fourth. Freshman Hailee Reinert drove in freshman Sam Flores with an RBI single back up the middle of the field. A few moments later, freshman Isabella Ramirez would use an RBI groundout to bring in freshman Natalie Adams who pinch ran for Carreon in the inning.

That would be closest the Owls would get though, as the Griffins scored twice more in the top of the fifth. Freshman Brianna Poteet would drive in a pair of a single to the left field fence, but that would be all the Owls were able to muster.

In the loss, Reinert finished 2-for-4 with a run and an RBI. Poteet was also 2-for-4, with 2 RBIs, adding a trio of K's in the circle.

With the loss, Citrus drops to 0-4 on the season. The Owls will hit the road on Wednesday afternoon to take on perennial powerhouse Palomar College at 2:00 PM.
