Men’s Basketball Drops Season Opener Against Cuesta

SANTA MARIA, Calif. – A big second half run by Cuesta helped push them past the Allan Hancock College men's basketball program in an 85-74 decision on Friday evening.

The Bulldogs entered the intermission with a slim five-point lead after a tight first half. Teams continued to exchange baskets early in the second frame, but an 11-4 run late in the half by the Cougars created a deficit that Hancock could not overcome.

Amari Stroud led all scorers in the contest after pouring in 20 points while shooting 8-for-11 from the field. Nick Chapman also finished in double digits after sinking 12 points from long range while Bryce Craver and Caleb Whalen each chipped in nine apiece. Craver also led AHC on the boards by grabbing seven rebounds.

As a team, Allan Hancock (0-1) posted a 47.3 percent finish from the floor while the Cougars (1-0) shot an efficient 56.3 percent from the three-point line. The Bulldogs won the battle of the boards at a 37-31 margin and were able to convert 18 Cuesta turnovers for 15 points.

Allan Hancock is set to resume play on Thursday, March 11th, with a home contest against Bakersfield. Game time is scheduled for 6 PM inside of the Jim White Memorial Gymnasium.
