Pirates impressive in 17-12 win over Tigers

RIVERSIDE -- The drive home from Riverside was a happy one for the Orange Coast College men's water polo team as the Pirates pulled out a hard-fought 17-12 Orange Empire Conference win over host Riverside City College on Wednesday afternoon.

A close contest between both schools, the Pirates (5-5, 1-1 in the OEC) used a mini 3-0 run late into the third period and early into the fourth to turn a one-goal advantage into a 12-8 lead. From there, both teams traded goals, but OCC never allowed the Tigers (4-13, 0-3) an opportunity to get back even the rest of the way.

Ethan Pranajaya had eight goals and five steals in a dominating performance for the Pirates, while Jacob Muller added five goals and an assist. Matthew Grudichak tossed in two goals, while solo tallies were turned in by Ethan Rose and Dane Howell

The goalie tandem of Benjamin Matz and Henry Szczuka combined for six saves in the win.

Coast will take part in the Cerritos College Mini Tournament on Friday and will open with the host Falcons at 1:50 p.m. OCC's next home match will be on Wednesday, Oct. 12 against Cypress, beginning at 4 p.m.
