On Wednesday, the Cerritos College volleyball team was swept by host El Camino College, 17-25, 17-25, 12-25 in their South Coast Conference match. The loss was the ninth in a row for the Falcons (1-15, 1-9), who will host Los Angeles Harbor College at 6:00 p.m. on Friday.

The team trailed, 10-2 in the first set, but battled back thanks in part to five attack errors by El Camino to draw to within 12-10. It was a 14-12 El Camino lead after sophomore Sierra Hernandez-Hardy (Bishop Amat HS) accounted for a kill, but the Warriors were able to string points together to record the win in the first set. Falling behind early in the second set, the Falcons slowly worked their way back into the match after kills from Hernandez-Hardy, sophomore Brooke Winquist (Carlsbad International School, Czechia) and freshman Gladys Garcia (Elizabeth Learning Center HS) to pull to within 19-15. The set was closed out on three straight kills from the Warriors Mikayla Clark.

Opening up a 5-2 lead in the third set, due to three attack errors from the Warriors, but could hold the lead, as a 6-4 advantage turned into a 15-6 deficit. A pair of aces and ball handling errors, coupled with three attack errors did in the Falcons during that 11-0 run. El Camino closed out the night by recording the final seven points.

Hernandez-Hardy led the team with eight kills, as the Falcons did not insert any substitutions on the night. Sophomore setter Mirka Granoble (Downey HS) posted three kills and had 13 assists, with Garcia leading the team with 13 digs. Freshman Jackie Dixon (Gahr HS) finished with 11 assists and two block assists, while the return of sophomore setter Lizbeth Vega (Paramount HS) resulted in 13 digs.
