WINNING IN THE RAIN

WINNING IN THE RAIN

The No. 5 in state Hornets hosted Southwestern College on Saturday night in the rain and ran past the Jaguars 31-0.

The history between Southwestern and Fullerton goes back to 1962 when head coach Hal Sherbeck led the Hornets to a 14-0 victory. After tonight's win, FC now leads the all-time series 6-2.

With the light misty rain beginning to fall, Fullerton took advantage early in the first quarter when quarterback Josh Calvin connected with running back Tyrell Greene Jr. for a 13-yards touchdown strike (11:13).

The moisture played a key factor in how both teams moved the ball, but FC was able to score again with 6:27 left in the half thanks to a 7-yard pass from QB Brandon Nunez  to tight end Cameron Woods.

Up 14-0 deep into the third quarter, the Hornets scored again at the 2:51 mark on a 9-yard run by Tyrell Greene Jr., who broke a few tackles along the way.

Fullerton hit paydirt again at 8:28 in the fourth quarter on a 5-yard run by Malik Winston. Later, with 2:52 left in the game, Jonathan Fobear kicked a 31-yard field goal to wrap up the win.

Green had a strong outing on the wet turf for FC rushing 15 times for 127 yards. He added a touchdown on the ground and one in the air to the stat sheet. Defensively, the Hornets were strong holding the Jaguars to 165 total yards on offense (86 passing / 79 rushing).  Bryce Dunnuck led the charge with 2 sacks (almost had 3) with Labarron Kennedy Jr. and Branson Tita-Nwa combining for 10 tackles with 5 a piece.

Up Next: Fullerton (6-1 overall, 2-0 Southern) will host another Southern Conference game next Saturday, October 29th when No. 14 San Diego Mesa comes to town. Come on out and support your Hornets for this big game. Kickoff is at 6:00 pm.
