A six-run second inning and another America Maples gem lifted the West Valley softball team to a 6-0 win over Diablo Valley in the second game of Saturday's "Battle of the Vikings" doubleheader at the WVC Softball Complex.

Maples struck out 11 DVC Vikings and carried a no-hitter into the sixth before surrendering three meaningless hits in the last two innings. Maples picked up her second win in as many days after notching a one-hit, seven K complete-game win Friday against College of the Redwoods.

West Valley got all the runs they would need in the home half of the second on a two-run double to center from Hannah Hillman, a Sierra Hillman RBI sacrifice and a bases-loaded single from Zoe Mendez that knocked in Sierra Hillman, Mya Galindo and Lily Chavez.

Hannah Hillman finished game two 2-3 with a double and two RBI, while Sierra Hillman was 2-4 with an RBI, and Mendez was 1-3 with the three-run single.

Game one was a nearly three-hour affair that went into a tiebreaker after finishing 1-1 through seven. With a runner starting at second, neither team scored in the eighth, but DVC put three runs on the board in the top of the ninth, taking advantage of a two-run WVC error for a 4-1 lead.

The Vikings (8-2) nearly pulled off the comeback in the bottom of the ninth, scoring a pair of runs on a Mendez RBI single and a Bianca Ceja sacrifice. DVC (5-4-1) got the 4-3 win when Mariah Perez grounded out to first for the final out.

West Valley heads to Visalia Saturday (2/22) for an 11am game against the College of the Sequoias (7-5-1).
