SHASTA MISSES PLAYOFFS AFTER 109-84 LOSS TO REDWOODS

REDDING, Calif. – Shasta College's men's basketball team lost 109-84 Wednesday in the game that decided the Golden Valley Conference title.

A win would have given the Knights the GVC title but the loss drops them to 6-4 in conference play and 15-13 overall. The Knights missed the CCCAA playoffs.

Shasta trailed 54-32 at half and kept pace with a 52-point second half but it wasn't enough. The Knights were outrebounded 55-17.

Tanner Bidwell scored a team-high 18 points while Michael Plunkitt added 14 points and six assists and Simmer Singh scored 13 points and grabbed six rebounds. Derek Gorden scored nine points, Zach Thompson scored six points and Brendan Hoag and Corey Busta each scored six points off the bench.

Shasta lost despite hitting 12-of-35 from 3-point range (34 percent).

The Knights finished seventh in the state with an average of 11.8 turnovers per game. Shasta averaged 69.6 points per game and gave up 69.1 points per game, 21st best in the state.

Thompson finished the year as the leading scorer with 14.5 points per game. Singh averaged 13.1 points and a team-best 5.7 rebounds per game. Plunkitt averaged 7.5 points, 5.0 assists per game and 3.0 steals per game. His 82 steals on the season ranked third in the state and his 134 assists ranked 22nd. Gorden averaged 9.9 points per game.
