(Walnut, CA) A furious last-minute comeback by the Mt. SAC Men's Basketball Team fell short to visiting L. A. Trade Tech, 92-86, in a South Coast Conference North game Friday (Jan. 24).

Trailing by 13 points, 90-77, with 1:11 remaining in the game, the Mounties went on a 9-2 run, sparked by five points from freshman guard Kalique Mitchell (4-9 FGM, 5-9 FTM, 7RB, 4 AST., 2 STL., 13 Pts.) and four by freshman guard Collin Reed (8-18 FGM, 4-9 3 PM, 3 A, 21 PTS).

The Mounties last led, 63-62, with 8:16 left in the game, but the Beavers went on an 18-7 run to build up a 10-point, 80-70 lead with 3:54 remaining.

Mt. SAC was led by a season-high 29 points from freshman forward Gerald Jordan (11-21 FGM, 7-11 FTM, 2 STL, 3 BLK). Freshman guard Josh Jastrab (5-9 FGM, 3-7 3 PM, 5-5 FTM, 2 RB, 10 AST, STL). Jordan also had a game-high 14 rebounds for the Mounties.

The Mounties (6-15, 1-1) started fast with a 10-point, 17-7 lead on the first of three, 3-pointers by Jastrab.

"It's amazing that I didn't think I was going to play that much and now I'm playing a lot," said Jastrab, who leads the team with 44 3 pointers. "Now I'm able to prove myself and able to help the team."

"We played good, but just have to fix a couple of things."

The 10-point Mt. SAC lead disappeared quickly over the next seven minutes, as Trade Tech went on its own run, outscoring the Mounties, 21-2, for a 28-19 lead with 8:44 left in the first half. Mt. SAC closed the gap to trail by five points at the half, 43-38, outsourcing Trade Tech, 19-15.

Mt. SAC takes a week break and will host East Los Angeles College Friday (Jan. 31) in a SCC North game.
