Men's Basketball Wins Play-Off Opener Over Cuesta

The MSJC men's basketball team went ahead early in the game Wednesday night and continued to put pressure on the Cougars as they defeated Cuesta 89-72 in the opening round of the CCCAA Regional Tournament.

The Eagles shot over 47% from the floor in the first half and had 11 assists on 18 made field goals in the opening 20 minutes to build a lead of 44-27 at the break.  MSJC pushed the second half lead all the way to 74-42 with 10:35 left to play, before cruising home with the win.

BJ Brown led the Eagle offense with 26 points as he connected on 6 of 9 three point shots.  Dasean Stevens had a double double as he scored 21 points and grabbed 10 rebounds, he also had a team high 5 assists.  Mateo Blocker also hit double figures in scoring with 10 for MSJC, Cameron Durr and Kyle Render each had 9 points in the victory.  In all the Eagles shot 53% from the field in the game (37-70) and were 13 of 30 from long range.

The win advances the Eagles to the CCCAA Southern California Regional's second round on Saturday where they will take on LA Harbor on the road.  MSJC improved to 23-5 on the season with the win.  Saturday's game will tip-off at 7 pm.
