Comets shine bright on sophomore night

SAN MARCOS, CA (2/14/2020) – On sophomore night, the Comets defeated Imperial Valley College 81-22 to improve to 23-2 on the season.

Palomar held Imperial Valley to four points at halftime. The Arabs scored two points in each of the first two quarters. Sophomore Nikki Mayoral finished with 12 points on the night with six rebounds, two assists and four steals. Freshman Elexis Espina finished with 12 points. She also nabbed five rebounds. Melena Bland, another sophomore, ended the night with 11 points, four rebounds and four steals. Lauren Hecker crashed the boards for eight rebounds, six defensive and the most of any Comet.

The Comets finished with 49 rebounds on the night, committed 21 turnovers and caused 28. Palomar held Imperial Valley to a field goal shooting percentage of 16 compared to the Comets' 42.5 percent.

The women are on the road next week and will face San Diego Mesa College on Wednesday, Feb. 19 at 5 p.m.
