Softball: Four-run rally lifts Rio Hondo to 4-3 win at Citrus

GLENDORA --- Rio Hondo College rallied for four runs in the top of the sixth inning to surge to its third straight win to open the season, a 4-3 victory at Citrus College on Tuesday.

Trailing 1-0 after five innings, the Roadrunners sent 10 batters to the plate, totaled four hits, and took advantage of a pair of walks and an error to score four times. Mariah Benitez and Kaylie Cervantes both hit RBI singles, Heaven Wolf drew a bases-loaded walk to force in another run, and a fielder's choice off the bat of Leilani Martinez also brought in a runner to score.

Rio Hondo totaled seven hits in the contest and was led by a 2 for 3 effort from Benitez.

Lourdes Soria pitched well in the start for the Roadrunners, going four innings while allowing one run and two hits. Clarissa Evangelista earned the win in relief, allowing two runs and two hits over the final three innings.

Rio Hondo, now 3-0 overall, returns to action on Thursday (Feb. 3) when the Roadrunners travel to Long Beach City College for their South Coast Conference opener at 3 p.m.
