Hot Spartans Win Fourth In a Row to Overcome Olympians

Monse Ayala gets ready to kick the ball in a recent game.

The MiraCosta College women's soccer team is hot.  They have won four in a row and five of their last six.  In their last six games they have outscored their opponents 15-3, with their most recent win being a close 1-0 result over last year's conference champion, Mesa College.

The game was an even battle for 90 minutes, with the only goal credited to Spartan foward Mandy Lara in the 30th minute.  Lara's goal came off a pass from midfielder Mak Arnone.  Center defensive back, Casey Martinez was stellar, denying the Olympian attack of opportunity after opportunity.  Tattiana Correia and Emiy Rivera also were a force completing the back line, anchored by freshman goalkeeper Tristyn Wright.  Wright finished the match with a total of 10 saves.

Other standouts for the Spartans include Arnone, Katy King, Monseratte Ayala, Alondra Herrera, Karla Gonzalez, Madisyn Roney and Jordan Fawcett.

The Spartan offense and midfield worked together to create scoring opportunities but were only able to capitalize on the one goal.  Luckily for MiraCosta, one goal was enough to ear the win and continue their hot streak.

The Spartans are next in action on Tuesday when they travel to Norcol College for a non-conference single match.  Kickoff is scheduled for 4:30PM.
