Glendale, CA - The Citrus College Women's Basketball team did everything within its power to keep pace with the leader in the Western State Conference South Division, Glendale College. The Owls pushed the host Vaqueros, but came up just short in a 56-42 loss.

The Owls opened up the game with the first basket, after sophomore Malia (Rocha) Ili stole the ball on the defensive end of the floor and then went coast-to-coast to score. Glendale would finish out the first frame outscoring Citrus 12-5 though, as the Owls went into the break trailing 7-12 after a last second lay-in by Ili. In the second, Glendale had its best quarter of the game, limiting Citrus to just 2-of-14 shooting, while extending their lead with an 18-7 period that put them on top 30-14 at halftime.

In the second half, Citrus did it best to make it a game. They would go on to outscore the Vaqueros 18-13 in the frame as they got their deficit down to nine points after back-to-back scores by sophomore Jailene Rosas and Ili made it 32-41. The Vaqueros would the last basket of the quarter though, and Citrus never got it any closer the rest of the way.

Ili led the offensive way with a game high 17 points, adding a game high 12 boards to go along with three assists and four steals. Rosas finished with 13 points, while freshman Julie Garcia Man added four points and eight rebounds.

With the loss, Citrus drops to 3-18 overall and 0-7 in WSC South play. The Owls will hit the road again on Saturday for a showdown with at LA Valley College. Tip is set for 3:00 PM.
