Football: Defense Shuts Down OCC; Retzlaff Runs for 3TDs

Costa Mesa, Calif. - Football is back and the Golden West defense shut down the Orange Coast offense is a 24-7 season opening win on the road. 

The Rustlers had control of things for most of the game, jumping out to a 17-0 lead at the half and making it 24-0 on their second offensive series of the third quarter. Golden West's quarterback, Jake Retzlaff was 16-of-27 for 161 yards and cashed in on three 1-yard TD runs in his debut leading the offense. Gianni Hurd lead all backs with 61 yards rushing on 11 attempts and Tanner Branson lead the receiving corps with six catches for 77 yards. 

As usual the Golden West defense came hungry and tallied three sacks by Ismail Souza, Sele Pemasa, and Darren Vasquez. Not to be out done, the DB's certainly did their fair share with two interceptions. First by Prince Ford in the second quarter the ended was appeared to OCC's most successful drive. Codie Sauvao ended the 53rd battle of the bell with his interception with six seconds on the clock. 

Golden West is back on the road in a week two match up at Palomar College starting at 6pm.
