Beach Volleyball Suffers First Defeat Against Grossmont But Rallies for a 5-0 Win Over Rio Hondo

EL CAJON, Calif. - Beach Volleyball (9-1) suffered its first loss of the season, falling to host Grossmont College, 4-1 but got the victory over Rio Hondo, 5-0.

Against the Griffins, No. 4 Taylor Brydon and Brooklyn Rubio had tough competition but rallied to get the only win for the Warriors, winning both sets against their opponents, 22-20 and 21-18. No. 1 Michelle Shimamoto and Micah Hammond fell a few points short against the Griffins and ultimately lost in two sets, 22-20 and 21-19. No. 3 pair of Megan Lim and Victoria Curtice and No. 5 pair of Nina Wyer and Melissa Euyoque all lost their matches against the state champions.

Coach Le Valley Pattison commented on the match against the Griffins, "We were very tentative and played with not much intensity. There is a lot of work to do still. Way too many unforced errors."

The Warriors came back against Rio Hondo, to take all five matches. Hammond/Shimamoto won in two sets, 21-15 and 21-7. Brydon and Rubio went undefeated, also beating out their No. 2 Rio Hondo opponents.

In regards to the win against the Roadrunners, Coach Pattison shared, "All teams played better learning from their early morning match. We will work very hard in practice this week to limit unforced errors."

Beach travels to Granada Beach next Friday to face Miracosta College and Long Beach City College at 10am and 12pm.
