The San Diego City College women's volleyball team was back on the court Friday for its first match in nearly two years and it was a wild one as they took down L.A. Harbor in five sets (25-22, 26-24, 19-25, 16-25, 15-8).
The Knights, who have 14 freshman and only one sophomore (Kally Norvell), got off to a great start after taking the first two sets, 25-22 and 26-24. Inexperience, however, may have played a role in the next two sets as the Knights struggled to close the match out. Harbor answered back with 25-19 and 25-16 wins to force a fifth and deciding set.
Led by freshman Faith Patteron's 13 kills, City regained their form in that fifth set and went on to get a 15-8 win to take the season-opening match, 3-2, on the road.
Freshmen Ashley Davies and Laurel Beezer added eight and five kills, respectively. Freshman Alyssa Fletes recorded 31 assists, while freshman Jadin Bradford-Holland totaled 15 digs. Elizabeth Hunsaker was on point with her serve as she earned four aces.
The Knights will be on the road again next Friday, September 3 at Santa Ana College at 4 p.m. City's first home game will be on Wednesday, September 8 at 5 p.m.
Spectators will not be able to attend volleyball matches at this time, but all San Diego City home matches will be live-streamed on the Knights' YouTube channel.
