PANTHERS FINISH SEASON AT SANTIAGO CANYON
Women's Soccer finished off their 2019 season came yesterday at Santiago Canyon, falling 1-0 to the Hawks in round 2 of CCCAA playoffs. Santiago Canyon is the defending state champion. The Hawk/Panther playoff rivalry dates back to 2013 with the two teams facing off 4 times in the last 7 years. All four games ended in a 1-0 score including yesterday's contest.
Savannah Ornelas at goal was able to stop three attempts by SCC letting one penalty kick in the 1st half get by. The Panthers had three shots on goal but failed to hit the back of the net.
The Panthers complete the season 17-3-2 overall. Head Coach Grace Cooper summed up her 13th season at Chaffey: "The 2019 season was a year of many ups, with one very disappointing down. Despite winning 17 games (against only 3 losses), capturing the inaugural IEAC Conference championship and placing numerous women on All-Conference and State/Regional teams, the Chaffey women's soccer team fell just short of their pre-season goal of making the state Final Four. Chaffey lost a heart-breaker, 1-0, to the eventual state champion, Santiago Canyon College. While it's a tough way to end your season, it provides plenty of motivation to get out and start recruiting again. We look to add some top student athletes to a very talented freshman class and continue to push towards the CCCAA state tournament."
