Irvine Valley's men's volleyball team played made quick work of Santiago Canyon on the road in an Orange Empire Conference match Wednesday night on the road.
The Lasers, ranked No. 4 in the state, swept the No. 9 Hawks, 25-16, 25-28, 25-18, to remain continue to stay in second place in the OEC standings.
Irvine Valley improved its record to 11-5 overall and 3-1 in conference action. IVC has won five of its last six matches. The sweep was Irvine Valley's seventh of the year.
The Lasers hit .354 as a team in the night and four players provided at least five kills. Freshman outside hitter Demetre Gossett had eight kills and hit .538 and sophomore outside hitter Sean Carroll finished with six kills and hit .667.
Freshman middle blocker Tristan Belsby added five kills and freshman outside hitter Declan Holder also had five kills.
Freshman setter Isaiah Powell ran the offense with 29 assists and also contributed three aces and four digs.
The Lasers play again on Friday. They start the second round of conference action against top-ranked and undefeated Orange Coast at 6 p.m.
