Knights Get a 3-2 Win Over MSJC; Fall 3-2 to Mesa
The women's beach volleyball team was back on its home courts on Friday and earned a 3-2 win over Mt. San Jacinto, but fell to Mesa, 2-3. The Knights are now 6-6 overall and 2-2 in the PCAC.
The women's beach volleyball team was back on its home courts on Friday and earned a 3-2 win over Mt. San Jacinto, but fell to Mesa, 2-3. The Knights are now 6-6 overall and 2-2 in the PCAC.
The Knights started the day against Mesa and got wins at the No. 1 and No. 2 pairings. Sisters Alyssa and Alina Fletes got past Mesa's 1s duo of Kylie Lions/Madelyn Harris, 21-8 and 21-18, while City 2s team of Kally Norvell and Ashley Davies defeated Sophia Jarosz/Austia Mendiola, 21-9 and 21-17.
At No. 3, Jadian Dil and Jillian Geenen fell to Maya Jessee/Antoinette Trochanova, 16-21 and 14-21. The Knights' 4s pair of Faith Patterson and Charisma Saymo nearly won their first set, but lost a close one, 20-22 and then 5-21, to Isabelle Bakken/Nicole Eden.
At the No. 5 spot, Veronica Allen and Ryla Manalang fell to Olivia Ostler/Kaila Keovilaysane in straight sets, 11-21 and 11-21/
After a break while Mesa played Mt. San Jacinto, the Knights took the courts against Mt. San Jacinto and won the 1s, 3s, and 4s to capture a 3-2 victory over the Eagles.
The Fletes sisters took down Chanelle Ongchangco/Chloe Mata, 21-18 and 21-15, at the No. 1 pairings.
Davies and Norvell dropped their first set to Mt. San Jacinto's Luci Villafana/Alicia Vasquez, 6-21, then evened the match with a 21-13 win the second set, but lost the third set, 5-15.
City's 3s pair of Geenan/Dilg earned a 21-17 and 21-19 straight set victory over Keana Sanzotera/Aleya Starnes and the 4s pair of Patterson/Saymo also got a straight set win, 21-11 and 22-20, over Mt. San Jacinto's Jaleesa Robinson/Laelanie Isbell.
The duo of Allen and Manalang lost at the No. 5 spot to Marina Eddolls/Audrey Underwood, 15-21 and 9-21.
The Knights will play two matches again next Friday, April 8 against Mt. San Jacinto and Grossmont. Both matches will be played at Grossmont College beginning at 9 a.m.
