Doubleheader Sweep For Badminton

Playing against a mini 4-player Compton College squad, the 2-time defending state champion Pasadena City College women's badminton team won 12 of the 13 matches played to score a doubleheader sweep over the host Tartars, 13-0, and 12-1 on Friday.

In the first match singles, Sophia Nguyen downed Compton's No. 1 Jennifer Lopez, 21-6, 21-16, Rose Huynh beat Princess Tovar, 21-16, 21-18, Angie Li defeated Kimberly Lara, 21-11, 21-14, and Emilee Kintanar got past Laura Reyes, 21-9, 21-18. In doubles, Xiaoming Yao teamed with Nicole Ching for a 21-11, 21-10 triumph over Lara-Reyes while Nguyen and Huyen Diep swept Lopez-Tovar, 21-9, 21-8.

In the second match, Ching went three sets to outlast Tovar, 21-11, 19-21, 21-7, but Diep lost to Lopez, 21-17, 21-13, for Compton's lone team point. Audrey Chia beat Reyes, 21-7, 21-9, and Chau Lam defeated Lara, 21-11, 21-18. In doubles, Nguyen-Diep swept Lopez-Tovar, 21-13, 21-17 and Huynh-Kintanar endured over Lara-Reyes, 21-18, 21-14. PCC received five forfeit points (four singles, one doubles) in each of the two matches to add up to the final team match results.

The current win streaks for PCC were extended under head coach Jennifer Ho--29 in a row overall, 42 straight in regular season matches, and 49 consecutive in South Coast Conference contests.
