SAC Softball Holds Off Southwestern for their First Win of the Season

SANTA ANA, Calif. - Ale Guzman and Katie Neal held the Southwestern Jaguars (2-6-1) to just 1 run, helping the Dons (1-3) earn their first win of the 2023 softball season.

Guzman picked up the win with four and two thirds innings of work. The freshman from La Quinta High gave up just two hits and an earned run in her first start of the year. Neal recorded her first save as she finished the last 2.1 innings without conceding a hit.

Runs were at a premium in this one but the Dons came up big when they needed to. Jayleena Perez put Santa Ana on the board first with a sacrifice fly to score Alyssa Armijo in the fourth inning. Payton Samuels followed that with an RBI single down the right field line to score Nyah Veals, giving SAC a 2-0 lead.

The Jaguars answered in with a run in the top of the fifth but Santa Ana's defense held strong to keep them at bay.

SAC will try to make it a streak as they travel to take on East LA in another non-conference matchup on Thursday at 5:00 p.m.
