SANTA BARBARA, Calif. – Facing Cal Lutheran (JV) in its home season opener Friday evening, the SBCC women's volleyball team cruised to victory in its most lopsided affair so far this season, 25-4, 25-12, 25-18.

With their second consecutive sweep, the Vaqueros now boast a 4-1 record, their best start out of the gates since 2016.

"Tonight's win was a whole team effort as everyone saw the court for playing time," head coach Kat Niksto said. "Overall, we focused on our play and got better tonight.

Outside hitter Lily Krongold had a standout night with a team-high 9 kills. Setters Sophie Ward and Brenna Valenzuela ran the offense well, utilizing all of the Vaquero hitters to the tune of 12 and 11 assists, respectively.

Santa Barbara hit at a .295 clip to set a new season-high. The Vaqueros also reached double-figures in aces for the first time with 11.

Defensively, libero/defensive specialist Jordyn Anderson posted an SBCC-high of 10 digs. Middle blockers Paige Rudi (4 blocks) and Karoline Ruiz (3) led the Vaqueros at the net.

Sophomore outside hitter Lauren Holsted finished with a team-best four aces, opening the match on an incredible 12-point serving run.

SBCC will look to keep its momentum going with two matches tomorrow hosting the SBCC Quad. The Vaqueros face Cerro Coso at 12:00 p.m. and San Diego Mesa at 4:00 p.m. No spectators will be allowed to attend tomorrow's matches.

"We are so excited to host our home Quad tomorrow," Niksto added. "Check out our Instagram for a live stream of our matches!"
