The Hawks traveled to Modesto to take on the Pirates in a Big 8 conference game. The Hawks came out looking for their first conference win but struggled shooting from the floor which found them down in the first quarter. The Hawks battled back in the second quarter and again in the fourth but the first and third quarter struggles were too much for the Hawks to overcome. Freshmen forward Chelsea Shirley tallied her 9th double double scoring 11 points and pulling down 10 rebounds and sophomore guard Ari Butts lead the team in scoring with 14 points.

Sacramento, CA.

The Hawks traveled back home to face Ohlone College in a non-conference game on Friday January 17th. Cosumnes River College put points on the board early, claiming a 32-28 lead at the half. Cosumnes River College locked in their lead in the final quarter, scoring 19 points. Butts shot well from the field, making 47% (9-for-19) of shots attempted as well as 33% (3-for-9) of threes attempted. Chelsea Shirley made it into double digits, scoring 15 points for Cosumnes River College (7-for-14). Also helping the effort for Cosumnes River College were Kiara Jones (7 points, 2 rebounds, 1 steal), Tamia Gray (7 points, 5 rebounds, 1 block), Suraya Cabrera (7 points, 4 rebounds, 4 steals), Nevaeh Glaindo (6 points, 4 rebounds), and Mekkah Pharr (2 points, 1 rebound). Shirley was a big defensive contributor as well, racking up 20 rebounds and three steals which helped contribute to her 10th double-double of the season. Cosumnes River College finished the game with 40 rebounds (15 offensive / 25 defensive), one block and 17 steals.

The Hawks are on the road for their next two games, traveling to Santa Rosa on Tuesday Jan 21st and then to Rocklin to face Sierra College as they start their second round of conference. 

The Hawks will be back at home on Friday Feb 7th as they face off with Folsom Lake College, tip-off is at 7:30pm.
