Baseball: Roadrunners open with losses to Antelope Valley

It wasn't the start that head coach Mike Salazar envisioned for his Rio Hondo College Roadrunner baseball squad. On Friday in the season opener in Whittier, the Roadrunners were edged 8-7 in extra innings. And on Saturday in Lancaster, Antelope Valley handed Rio Hondo a 14-4 defeat.

Over the two games, sophomore Marco Rivas led Rio Hondo at the plate, going 4 for 7 with 4 runs, 2 doubles and 2 RBI.

In Friday loss, sophomore Aiden Garcia drove in a pair of runs and collected two walks.

Rio Hondo, now 0-2 overall, will look to pick up its first win on Tuesday (Jan. 30) when the Roadrunners host Citrus College in a 2 p.m. non-conference game.
