The Santa Monica College Women's soccer team defeated College of the Canyons 1-0 in the Western State Conference home opener for the Corsairs.

In the first half of the match Cougars dominated play while the Corsairs struggled to put a strong attack together.  The Corsairs weathered the storm however as the score was tied going into halftime.

The second half started out with a momentum shift. The Corsairs began to put together better series of plays and attacking shape.  In the 78th minute Ceirra Little picked up a ball off of the back line of the Cougars and was able to convert for a 1-0 lead for the Corsairs. SMC was then able to hold off the attack of Canyons for the final 10 minutes of the game for the win.

SMC goalie Taylor Brown recorded her seventh shutout of the season and third shutout of conference for the Corsairs. This win moves the team to 6-2-2 on the season and 3-0 in Western State Conference play.

The Corsairs will return to action Friday when they travel to play Citrus College at 3pm. SMC is ranked #18 in the CCCSIA Women's Soccer Rankings.
