Comets continue to roll; defeat Santa Monica in home opener

SAN MARCOS, CA (11/15/2019) – In their home opener, Palomar took on Santa Monica College and won 94-43 in the first round of the Comet Classic. The Comets led the Corsairs 50-17 at the half scoring 26 in the first and 24 in the second.

Forward, Imari Cooley had 18 points and was the leading scorer for the Comets. She had nine rebounds, one block and three steals on the night. She shot 60 percent inside the paint. Sophomore guard Nikki Mayoral had 16 points, shooting 50 percent beyond the arc. She was 6-11 inside the paint. Coming off the bench was freshman Elexis Espina who had 11 points shooting a perfect 100 percent. She was 4-4 on field goals and 3-3 on three-pointers. Julie Saelee also had 11 points shooting 4-7 in the field and 3-6 beyond the arc.

Defensively, Gabby Sebit led the team with seven defensive rebounds and 12 total. She had three steals and three blocks on the night. Freshman Aaliyah Taylor had four steals and five rebounds. Sebit had six points and Taylor had five.

The team committed 12 turnovers, but caused 34 and scored 41 points off those turnovers. The Comets racked up 48 rebounds and the bench put up 46 points.

The 4-0 Comets will face Riverside City College on day two of the Comet Classic at 7 p.m. in the Dome.
