APTOS – West Hills College Coalinga improved to 3-0 in Golden Coast League after putting together its best game of the season, a 38-0 rout at Cabrillo College on Saturday night. Winners of three straight, the Falcons moved their overall record to 4-3.

West Hills dominated all three phases of the game in posting the shutout. Falcons' head coach Justin Berna was extremely proud of his team's effort.

"We controlled the game from the opening kickoff to the final knee," said Berna. "The offense made some big plays, the defense played out of their minds, and special teams won the battle to give us some great field position. It was a true team win."

West Hills scored on its opening drive and never let up. Jaice Holt ran in from four yards out at the 9:02 mark in the first quarter to cap a five-play, 57-yard drive.

The defense added to the lead thanks to a 14-yard interception return for a touchdown by Austin Richards with 53 seconds remaining in the first. He totaled 5 tackles in the contest and was also in on a sack.

The Falcons allowed only 96 yards of offense by Cabrillo, including just nine first downs. Juan Donoso and Timothy Feleti both had 6 tackles and a sack. Julius German also had an interception and totaled 3 tackles.

Vondarious Gordon scored the first of two touchdowns, smashing his way in from five yards to close out an 11-play, 80-yard drive Falcons' drive and extend the West Hills lead to 21-0.

Gordon added a short two-yard TD in the third and Avian Pesina broke off the big play of the day, a 42-yard touchdown run to close out the scoring early in the fourth.

Sam Michotte chipped in three points with a 23-yard field goal earlier in the second.

In all, West Hills totaled 427 yards on offense in a balanced attack. Holt was solid, throwing for 167 yards on 14 of 22 passing. DeQuan Green led receivers with 91 yards on 4 receptions.

Gordon finished just shy of 100 yards, running for 98 yards on 17 carries with a pair of touchdowns. His 12 TDs this season currently rank second in the state.

West Hills will get some needed rest with a bye next week. The Falcons return to action on Nov. 5 at 1 p.m. when they host San Jose City College in a key Golden Coast League game.
