A mid-season slide continued for the Porterville College baseball team as the Pirates suffered doubleheader sweep at Modesto Junior College on Tuesday. PC opened the action with an 11-1 loss before falling 8-0 in Game 2.

Porterville totaled just eight hits over the two games while Modesto (4-4) was able to jump on the Pirates early. In the opener, Modesto scored eight runs in the bottom of the first inning off PC starting pitcher Luis Garay to put the contest out of reach early.

Porterville got its lone run in the contest thanks to a passed ball in the third that allowed Isaiah Gomez to score. The Pirates had their chances but left 10 runners on base.

Fernando Montoya went 2 for 3 to lead PC at the plate. Garay took the loss after giving up 10 earned runs and 14 hits over five innings. The contest was called in the seventh inning.

Game 2 was more of the same. Modesto put up three runs in the first and two more in the second to jump ahead 5-0. Kadon Wright earned the loss after allowing five earned runs and five hits over three innings. Alejandro Pacheco pitched well in relief, tossing three scoreless innings.

Porterville dropped to 2-11 overall and will look to snap an eight-game losing streak on Thursday (Feb. 13) at 2 p.m. when they host Ohlone College in a non-conference game.
