Hawks drop one on the road to #5 state ranked Diablo Valley College

The Hawks traveled to Pleasant Hill on Tuesday to take on the #5 CCCAA State Ranked Diablo Valley College Vikings. The Hawks came out with intensity and kept it close in the first quarter holding the Vikings to no 3 pointers and only allowed 17 points total. The Hawks were also able to put some points on the board with transition buckets and second chance lay ups, tallying 11 points by the end of the first quarter. 

The Hawks continued their defensive stance in the second quarter as well as their offensive push, on the back of Freshmen Chelsey Shirley who 5 of her 8 offensive rebounds tallied by the end of the second quarter. The Hawks found themselves only down 12 at the break but their 3rd quarter woes continued last night and were only able to put up 7 points while giving up 19 points to DVC, including three 3 point shots. 

The fourth quarter the Hawks battled back with their never say die attitude and cut the lead, but just ran out of time and ended the game on a 83-52 loss. Freshmen Chelsea Shirley added yet another double-double to her tally with 14 points and 15 rebounds, along with 2 assists and 1 steal. Freshmen center Tamia Grey also chipped in for the Hawks with 14 points and 5 rebounds, shooting 5-8 (63%) from the field. Rounding out the Hawks top scorers was sophomore guard Ari Butts who chipped in 7 and freshmen guard Briley Jordet who also had 7. The Hawks crashed the boards hard, ending the game with 41 rebounds (17 offensive, 24 defensive) and holding DVC to only 32 (12 offensive). The team also tallied 10 steals and 7 assists. 

The Hawks stay home for their final two games of the season. Thursday February 13th they take on Modesto and next Friday February 21st they take on Santa Rosa for their final game of the season. They will celebrate their sophomores that night. Both games tip off at 7:30pm.
