SAC Pulls Away for 4-1 Win Over ELAC in Season Opener

SANTA ANA, Calif. – The Santa Ana men's soccer team kicked off the 2019 season with a convincing 4-1 win over East Los Angeles College at home on Tuesday afternoon.

Sophomore forward Kevin Ruiz scored his first goal of the year on a rebounded ball in the box to give the Dons an early 1-0 lead. The Huskies responded with a goal in the 29th minute and kept the score even going into halftime.

Following the break, the Dons flipped the switch, scoring three unanswered goals to pull away.

Gilberto Garcia scored through traffic in the 59th minute to break up the tie. Not long after, Marcelo Aguirre bent a ball into the right corner of ELAC's goal on a free kick to give the Dons some breathing room. Ruiz added his second goal of the day in 78th minute to wrap things up.

The Dons improve to 1-0 and will continue the season on the road on Friday when they face Oxnard College at 4:00 p.m. Oxnard will be a tough challenge for Santa Ana as they defeated a good Golden West team 4-2 in their opener on August 23rd.
