REDDING, Calif. – Shasta College's women's basketball team lost to Butte College 68-59 at home but snapped its seven-game losing streak with a 70-59 win over Siskiyous to end the week.

In the loss to Golden Valley Conference leader Butte, Shasta trailed by as many as 17 in the first half but 3-pointers from Megan Collins, Gabby Rosales and Kali Cummings trimmed the deficit to seven by halftime.

"Everybody in that gym, when we were down by almost 20 that early thought this was going to be a blow out," said Shasta College coach Jerry Brown. "Not with how hard these girls play."

Butte went up by double digits early in the third quarter on Elyana Croninger's 3-pointer and kept Shasta at bay. The Knights trailed by 17 early in the fourth but responded with an 11-0 run to cut it to six. Jenna Wallace scored five points in that span, Collins converted a steal into a layup and Jamie Larson's bucket in the paint cut it to a two-possession game.

"We had times we were executing in the half-court offense, we just needed to control tempo and not get caught up in letting them do what they wanted," Brown said.

However, Shasta couldn't get closer than five the rest of the way. Croninger's 3 with 3:23 left gave extended Butte's lead to eight and Butte held Shasta to one field goal in the final 3 minutes of the game – a 3-pointer from Collins.

Shasta had four players score in double figures, led by Wallace's scored 15 points and 12 rebounds. Riley Wallen scored 15 points to go with eight rebounds, Cummings added 11 points and Collins finished with 10 points, 10 assists and six steals.
