Irvine Valley's baseball team captured its third game in a row to start the 2023 season.
The Lasers dominated from start to finish in a 15-3 win at San Bernardino Valley Thursday afternoon.
Irvine Valley scored the first 13 runs of the game, including plating eight runs in the top of the seventh inning to put things away.
The Lasers improved their record to 3-0 overall and play at Compton on Friday at 1 p.m. before hosting San Bernardino Valley on Saturday at 1 p.m.
Irvine Valley has out-scored its first three opponents, 32-10.
Irvine Valley finished with 18 hits in on Thursday and had productive offensive games from a slew of players.
Freshman center fielder and lead-off hitter Shane Stafford set the stage, going 3 for 5 with three doubles, a run scored and two RBI.
Freshman third baseman Kevin James continued to shine, going 2 for 5 with two RBI, sophomore first baseman Casey Kudell had two hits and one RBI and in his first start of the season, freshman right fielder Darren Shorter, went 3 for 4 with three runs and three RBI.
Several other IVC players also stood out. Sophomore catcher Connor Tallakson had two hits, two runs and two RBI and sophomore left fielder Drew Porter finished with two hits, two runs and one RBI.
Sophomore right-hander Sammy Murphy was impressive in his second start on the mound this year.
Murphy improved to 2-0 by throwing six scoreless innings.
He gave up just one hit, walked three and ended with six strikeouts.
Freshman Chris Cody followed with a scoreless inning and freshmen Cole Dietch and Ashton McNaughton finished up on the mound with an inning apiece for the Lasers.
