Thursday afternoon saw the Hawks looking to get on the right track in Big 8 Conference play. Coach Don Mico gave Freshman Troy Rice (Capital Christian HS) the ball for the Hawks and he did not disappoint. Rice and The Hawks (8-7, 1-1 Big 8) defeated American River JC 6-3 an a afternoon contest that only took 3 hours to complete.

In the top of the second is when the Hawks offense got things going when Sophomore Henry Degnan (El Cerrito HS) walked, Freshman Gabriel Ramirez (Capital Christian HS) singled and then Freshman standout Bryson McArn (Pleasant Grove HS) hit a laser single up the middle scoring both runs. The Hawks added another run in the 4th inning on Sophomore Nick McCormick (Vista Del Lago HS) singled in a run to give the Hawks a 3-0 lead.

The Hawks also scored in the 6th and 8th inning to give some much needed insurance to Sophomore Ethan Torres (Liberty Ranch HS) who recorded his first save of the year coming in relief of Rice. Torres went 2 1/3 of scoreless pitching to secure the first win of Big 8 play and help the Hawks to try and win the series finale slated for Friday at 2:00 pm (Conway Field/CRC).
