SMC Women's Tennis won the final match of the season at home with a win over 2nd place Los Angeles Mission College (LAMC) 6-3.  The Corsairs were edged out 5-4 in their first meeting at LAMC on February 22nd but today would prove to be a different story.

Nicole West and Kai Nikchevich got the first point at no. 1 doubles with an 8-5 win.  The Corsairs no. 3 doubles team fell to LAMC 8-0 to tie the score at 1-1.   Veronica Gerlach and Juyan Pollack won at no. 2 doubles to put SMC ahead 2-1.

Veronica Gerlach (no. 3 singles) recorded the 3rd Corsair point after her opponent defaulted.  Nikchevich then won at no. 2 singles, 6-0, 6-1 to score the Corsairs 4th point and West (no. 1 singles) sealed the victory with a solid 6-3, 6-3 win.

West finished the regular season as the top player in the WSC with an undefeated record at no. 1 singles.  West is also undefeated in doubles with partner Kai Nikchevich.  Nikchevich is undefeated at no. 2 singles.

With the match already decided, Juyan Pollack added the icing to the cake with a 6-4, 1-6 (10-8) win on Court 5.

Coach Jay Molsing summed up the day, "It was very satisfying to see all the hard work put in by the team pay off with a win in the last match of the season against a quality opponent."

The Corsairs finished the regular season with a 6-6 record. However, four of their losses this season were 5-4 defeats.  "Lady Luck wasn't always on our side in some of those close matches but I was happy to see the team kept fighting and rose above it all to grow as tennis players and teammates," said Coach Richard Goldenson
