The day-after-Halloween Highway 17 rivalry game against Cabrillo started off a bit scary for the West Valley women's soccer team Friday afternoon in Saratoga. Just five minutes in, Seahawk Clara Critchfield scored her 13th goal of the season for a 1-0 Cabrillo lead. But, it was all West Valley from there as the Vikings countered with a quartet of unanswered goals for an important 4-1 Coast-South Conference victory. Lindsey Heen (Abigail Wesendunk assist) connected on a header for the equalizer in the 25th minute. The Vikings dominated the second half as Drew Bozarth (Danielle Wheeler) found the back of the net at 59' for the game-winner, Payton Stauble blasted in an unassisted goal from the right side at 79', and Wheeler (Stauble) snuck in a shot from the front of the crease at 88' to close out the scoring. After the Critchfield score, Viking keeper Sophia Ulloa was impenetrable, stopping four Seahawk shots to earn her fifth win of the season. West Valley (8-8-1, 5-3-0 Coast-South) travels to Skyline Nov. 5 for a 3:00pm game against the Trojans (2-14-1, 0-7-1 Coast-North).
