Young Huskies Open New Season with a Straight-Set Win

Young Huskies Open New Season with a Straight-Set Win

by Cerwin D Haynes

Having fans to start the season for the first time in three years, East LA Volleyball put forth a good show for the home crowd to take care of the San Bernardino Valley College Wolverines 3-0 (25-14, 25-16, 25-17) to win their season opener.

The Huskies, led by their large freshmen class, showed substancial improvements in hustle play, floor positioning and attacking at the net.

They built an early lead in the first set, taking an 18-8 lead en route to a strong set finish. In the second set, the Wolverines scored the first two points, but the Huskies (1-0) refused to let SBVC (0-1) build any real momentum. ELAC didn't take long to regain the lead; they then built upon it midway through the set and withstood a couple of min-runs by SB Valley to close it. The third set mirrored the second: SBVC scores first, ELAC regroups and goes on a run to take the lead, the Huskies gradually extend the lead, withstand a few Wolverine flurries before closing out the win.

HUSKY BITS
  • ELAC never relinquished their lead in any of the three sets.
