Sophia Torres had a double-double and Alondra Jimenez had a fine all-around game on her birthday as SBCC outlasted Victor Valley 72-68 on Saturday in a non-league game in Victorville.

Torres, who played with Jimenez at Santa Barbara High, notched her sixth double-double with 17 points and 11 rebounds. Jordan Parkhurst also scored 17. The left-handed Jimenez racked up 15 points, five rebounds, five assists and three steals.

The Vaqueros (9-3) won their third straight and are 8-2 in their last 10 games. Destiny Marin hit 5-8 on 3-pointers and led all scorers with 28 points for Victor Valley (4-7).

The game was tight throughout and the Vaqueros hit some clutch baskets in the final minutes. SBCC won the second quarter 25-20 and led 34-31 at halftime. The Vaqueros shot 49.1% from the field and 60% on 2-point shots (24-40).

Sierra Cavaletto scored 12 points in her first start of the season and she's tallied 35 points in her last three games. Jada Forsdick-Stevenson handed out a season-high eight assists while scoring six points and grabbing four rebounds.

"What a battle, both teams competed hard for 40 minutes," said SBCC coach Sandrine Krul. "Thank goodness we made shots in the last two minutes. Jordan was awesome on backdoor plays and the key to the game was Jada finding the open player with her eight assists.

"Alondra had an amazing all-around game and Cavaletto was awesome as well."

The Vaqueros will play three games in four days at the El Camino Crossover next week. They open on Tuesday with a 5 p.m. game at Santa Ana. The Dons edged the Vaqueros 75-69 eight days ago in the Hancock Tournament.
