Vaqueros Defeat Long Beach, Fall to West Valley

WALNUT, Calif. – The SBCC women's water polo team split its games on the last day of the Mt. SAC Tournament, downing Long Beach 11-7 following an 11-5 defeat at the hands of West Valley.

This is the third consecutive tournament that the Vaqueros have ended with just a single loss, improving to a 10-3 record.

SBCC vs. Long Beach
Facing Long Beach in their final game of the weekend, the Vaqueros used another fast start to put the game away early. Two first quarter goals from Jenna Olson helped put her side up 4-0.

In the following period, Megan Ditlof scored her first of two goals to put SBCC up a commanding 6-0. That would be Santa Barbara's largest lead of the game.

Eden Tal clinched another multi-goal performance with her second of the day early in the final frame. Charlize Winter, Allison Kay, Emily Clapham and Ensley Letterman all scored once.

Goalkeeper Chloe Mckay reached double-figures in the saves department for the fifth time this season.

Today was a challenge for our team. We had almost back-to-back games against two top teams in the state," head coach Chuckie Roth said. "The girls rose to the occasion. We are continuing to grow with every trial. I am very proud of them."

SBCC vs. West Valley
The Vaqueros had already faced West Valley once this season, and their second matchup would provide a near identical score with the Vikings taking an 11-5 win.

SBCC got out to a strong start. Goals from Jenna Olson, Megan Ditlof, and two from Charlize Winter saw the Vaqueros take a 4-2 lead midway through the second quarter.

However, it was almost all West Valley from there. Ensley Letterman scored late in the third to bring things level at 5-5, but the Vikings ended the game on a 6-0 run to seal the win.

Mckay was kept busy, totaling nine saves.
