Beach Volleyball: Rio Hondo takes down Santa Ana, Santa Monica

After suffering a pair of losses to open the 2018 season last week, the Rio Hondo College women's beach volleyball team got back on track with a pair of 3-2 victories at the Newland Volleyball Courts in Huntington Beach.

The Roadrunners picked up narrow wins over hosts Santa Ana College as well as Santa Monica College to even their record at 2-2 overall.

Rio Hondo's No. 2 team of Michell Chavez-Valdivia and Madison Mader as well as the No. 4 squad of Bree Newton and Michelle Hawkins won both of their matches on the day to lead the Roadrunners.

Also picking up wins for Rio Hondo were the duo of Stephanie Garcia and Felipa Moreno at No. 3 vs. Santa Ana as well as Mia Ponce and Monica Campos at No. 5 over Santa Monica.

Rio Hondo returns to action next Friday (Mar. 2) at 10 a.m. when the Roadrunners travel to Orange Coast College to face the host Pirates as well as Glendale College.
