Big first half carries Vaqueros past Copper Mountain, 88-59

SBCC raced out to a 54-26 halftime lead on Friday and went on to defeat Copper Mountain 88-59 in the Victor Valley Crossover women's basketball tournament.

The Vaqueros (8-3) tied their season high by scoring 30 in the first quarter and dominated the second period, 24-6.

Sophomore guard Alondra Jimenez matched her season best with 26 points in 25 minutes on 10-17 shooting from the field and 5-9 from 3-point range. She also had four rebounds and five assists. Sophia Torres tallied 12 of her 16 points in the first half to go along with seven rebounds, four assists and two steals.

Jimenez scored 19 points in the second (9) and third (10) quarters.

Sierra Cavaletto added 11 points and five rebounds. Jordan Parkhurst had 10 points, five rebounds and three assists.Jada Forsdick-Stevenson collected eight points, four rebounds and three assists.

The Vaqueros have won two straight and seven of nine. The Fighting Cacti fell to 1-9.

SBCC forced 26 turnovers and only committed 12. The Vaqueros shot 45% and hit 12-33 from beyond the 3-point arc.

"All 10 players scored and again, we started in our press," said coach Sandrine Krul. "It creates offensive transition for us. Alondra was a beast, shooting 59% from the field."

The Vaqueros will play at Victor Valley on Saturday at 1 p.m.
