CARNES DOMINATES IN SWEEP OF LOS MEDANOS

PITTSBURG, Calif. – Shasta College sophomore Whitney Carnes took care of business as Knights' standout pitcher and at the plate for Shasta in the 12-3, 10-1 doubleheader road sweep over Los Medanos College.

Carnes struck out 12 batters in the opener and had a pair of hits in both games with three extra base hits and three runs.

Carnes struck out 12 batters and walked three while allowing three earned runs on nine hits for the complete game win. At the plate, Carnes went 2 for 3 with a pair of doubles, two RBIs, drew two walks and scored once. McKenzy Fernandes was 4 for 5 with a double, five RBIs and three runs, Autumn Giannini was 2 for 2 with an RBI and four runs, Savannah Cruz was 2 for 5 with a double and two runs, and Shelbe Cappello had a double and scored twice.

Kaylie McDaniel struck out three and walked none while giving up one run on five hits to earn the complete game win. Carnes was 2 for 4 with a triple and two runs, Caitlin France was 2 for 3 with two RBIs and two runs, Cappello was 1 for 3 with a double, two RBIs and two runs and Fernandez and Autumn Campbell each scored a run.

Shasta (3-1) plays against San Mateo and Reedley in San Mateo on Feb. 26.
