CHAMPS!! GREAT START FOR CHABOT WOMEN'S BASKETBALL

The Chabot women's basketball team, guided by head coach Mark Anger, opened the season impressively by sweeping three games and winning the De Anza Classic championship.

Chabot (3-0) first walloped Victor Valley 67-51 on Nov. 7. The Gladiators also beat Allan Hancock 67-57 on Nov. 8 and then routed Gavilan 88-45 on Nov. 9 in the championship game.

Sophomore standout Zakiyah Mahoney led the way against Allan Hancock with 16 points, nine rebounds, five steals and three assists, but the Gladiators got stout efforts off the bench from Mikee Lopez (13 points) and Adorah Buggs (12 points). Starter Niyah Willis also filled up the stat sheet with nine points, eight rebounds, five assists and three steals.

Against Victor Valley, Chabot's depth also came into play. Mahoney had 15 points and nine boards. Willis added 14 points and Kayla Taahafe added 12 points, seven rebounds and five assists. Lopez gave the team a lift off the bench with 12 points.
