FOOTBALL: HOY DROPS 3 TDS ON MOUNTIES

The Hornets pulled off a big 56-35 win over a strong Mt. San Antonio College squad on the road Saturday. Jordan Hoy delivered 3 TD passes to lift Fullerton past the Mounties!

The Hornets, ranked No. 5 in the state in the JC Athletic Bureau coaches poll, never trailed, but couldn't put the No. 8-ranked Mounties away until quarterback Jordan Hoy drove them to a pair of fourth period touchdowns.

Hoy's ability to buy time while evading the Mt. San Antonio rush was the key to him throwing for 317 yards and three touchdowns. The 6-foot-1, 195-freshman, who spent last season redshirting at Montana State, completed 21-of-33 and had one intercepted.

Hoy had thrown only one interception in the three previous games for the Hornets (4-0), but his second, by Markelle Davis, early in the fourth period set up a touchdown that kept the Mounties close. The freshman from Claremont High returned it 18 yards to the Fullerton 26.

Mt. San Antonio (2-2) quarterback Anfernee Burton threw a touchdown pass to Alvin Pole'o on first down and Brandon Gracia's kick chopped Fullerton's lead to 42-35 with 14:03 to play.

The Hornets took the ensuing kickoff and marched 70 yards on eight plays

Hoy mixed in a 24-yard completion to Asante Wilder and a 7-yarder to DeAndre McNeal with two rushes by Phillip Butler for 8 yards, Kentavious Thomas for two and a keeper for 3. On third down from the 11, Gerald Hulett ran 11 yards for a touchdown and Jonathan Aguilar's PAT put the Hornets in control, 49-35, with 10:32 to play.

Fullerton drove 60 yards on 10 plays for an insurance touchdown. Hoy gunned a pass into Markus Grossman from the 20, expanding its lead to 56-35 with 4:53 to play.

The Hornets took a 7-0 lead in the first quarter on Tim Gordon's 28-yard interception return of a Burton pass.

They expanded their advantage to 14-0 early in the second quarter on Anthony Wood's 1-yard run. It culminated a 6-play, 67-yard drive that had Justin Walker gain 34 yards on a screen pass from Hoy.

La'Tre Jacquess blocked Austin McGehee's punt and Reginald Young recovered it in the end one for Mt. San Antonio's first score, cutting Fullerton's lead to 14-7.

Hoy's 39-yard pass to McNeal for a touchdown pushed the Fullerton lead to 21-7 midway through the second quarter.

Walker caught a 26-yard touchdown pass from Hoy with 2:21 left in the first half for a 28-14 Fullerton lead.

Up Next: The Hornets (4-0 overall) will take on Moorpark College at Yorba Linda High's Nathan Shapell Stadium on Saturday, Octber, 1st. Kick off is at 12:00 pm.
