On paper against Chaffey and San Bernardino Valley Colleges, the GCC Women's Basketball Team was thought to struggle against taller and more physical opponents in games Thursday and Friday Nov. 14-15 in their own crossover tournament played in the Verdugo Gym.

But those games were not played on paper as demonstrated by the fast as a blur Lady Vaqs as they proceeded to blow out their two Pacific Coast Athletic Conference opponents by the scores of 70-40 Thursday against Chaffey and 74-50 against San Bernardino College to run their winning streak to four games and improve their record to 4-1 this season.

"The team is really playing with great togetherness and confidence and playing for each other which is great to see,'' said GCC Head Coach Joel Weiss. "I actually tried to get them to slow it down in the second half so we could set it up a bit more and run our offense but I like where we are now but we still have a lot of work to do as the season progresses.''

Similarities between the two games were found in the first quarters of both contests as the Lady Vaqs run and gun offense helped them sprint out to first quarter leads of 22-2 against Chaffey and 26-6 against San Bernardino to put the opponents on their heels for the remainder of the games.

Four players scored in double figures in the Chaffey game with Zoe Rouse netting 13, Tess Oakley-Stilson had 12 and Gloria Bianchi and Polina Kovaleva had 10 0ff the bench. As always, freshman Vicky Oganyan was the floor leader with seven rebounds, six assists, three steals and four points as many of her passes and those of Zoe Rouse, with six assists, found Trieu for a game high 18 points, Kovaleva had 17 off the bench and Binachi had 13 in the win over SBVC.

Glendale play next at home against Victor Valley at 5 pm Nov. 22 against Victor Valley College.
