Condors Outplay Cerritos; Come up Short

2021 Condor Men's Soccer at Regional Round 2

The Condors flew into Cerritos College and left all they had on the field, but it was not enough, falling 1-0 to #2-ranked Cerritos College.

The game was decided in the 83rd minute with Martin Velasquez chipping in a shot in the corner from a 30-yard free kick.

Oxnard maintained posession and pressure on the Falcons throughout the game, but were unable to score.  The Oxnard defense, anchored by Adrian Moreno (Channel Islands HS), Jose Suazo (Oxnard HS), and Enrique Tiscareno (Channel Islands HS), held Cerritos to a limited number of high-quality chances.  Even after starting goalie, Efrain Perez (Huenemen HS) suffered a game-ending injury, Oxnard's backup, Kevin Aranda (Grace Brethren HS) came in to make some great saves.

The usually potent OC offense, without key injured players, put pressure on the Cerritos goal.  The Falcon's goalie, Alex Ledesma, came up huge for the home team, to lead them to the third round of the CCCAA Regional Playoffs.

Oxnard's season ends with a 14-3-5 record, returning the majority of their starting roster, next year.

Freshman, Andy Cruz (Westlake HS) added a prophetic statement after the game, "We didn't lose that game, we just ran out of time".

The College is tremendously proud of the Western State Conference Champions, and look forward to the great things ahead for the Oxnard College Soccer team--Juntos!
