Baseball Dominates in Opening Day Win

VALLEY VILLAGE - Monarchs Baseball opened the 2023 season with a dominate 12-2 win over Oxnard on Friday.

Oxnard looked tough early, going up 1-0 in the top of the first inning.  It would end up being the only run pitcher, Danny Veloz gave up in the game.  He went six innings and only gave up two hits and the one run in the first.

Valley bounced back in the bottom of the first inning, scoring three runs with team offense - getting guys on, bunting them over and hitting ground balls in the infield to score them.  It was the second inning where the Monarch's power kicked in.  Valley tallied six hits in a row in the second inning, including a two RBI triple from second baseman Sebastian Garcia (pictured) to put up a five run inning on Oxnard.  It was all Valley from the second inning on, dominating on the mound and at the plate - tallying the final score at 12-2.

Sebastian Garcia was 2-3 at the plate with two runs batted in and three runs scored for the Monarchs.  Lead off hitter Tyler Olivas got the party started going 3-4 at the plate and scoring two of Valley's 12 runs.  Tino Valdez led the Monarchs with three RBIs, going 2-5.

The Monarchs return to action tomorrow, January 28, at 12:00 p.m. at Oxnard.  Great start to the season Monarchs!
